Embracing new design talent is essential in today’s kitchen market.

The differentiation of pure kitchen & bathroom design talent should be recognised to draw a clear line between them and the sharp suited salesmen that haunt our industry.

A collective of the most respected names from the UK’s design circles have come together to create The Hub.

The 12 founding members include Vanessa Brady of the Society of British Interior Designers, kbbreview Industry awards winner, Colin Wong, kitchen designer Darren Morgan, Graham Robinson from Alno in Wigmore Street, Lisa Melvin from Melbros in Coventry and Richard Hibbert from KSL Interiors.

The group intends to base the idea around the digital exchange of inspiration and knowledge. The Hub will meet and organise various events to help bring British design talent to the forefront of the heavily weighted commercial kitchen & bathroom industry.

Design talent will be recognised and promoted to help educate the general public that real considered design adds value to people’s homes and lives.

Renee Mascari of the Kitchen and Bathroom national training group(KBBNTG) commented,
It’s not specifically purely for talented designers, but it’s more of a platform for designers to really take pride in their work and to exchange ideas and receive help from the handpicked committee who have so much to offer. The committee members are all passionate about design and can offer a bit of mentoring along the way”

The winners of the kbbreview Awards 2014 have been unveiled in a glamorous black tie ceremony in Birmingham.

The 750-seat event, the 20th in the awards history, rewarded the very best in kitchen and bathroom design and retail and was sponsored by some of the biggest brands in the industry.

Designer Colin Wong, from Development Direct in Edinburgh, won two trophies after being named the Kitchen Designer of the Year – project cost up to £30,000 and Bathroom Contract Designer of the Year.

The event was hosted by Al Murray, better known as the Pub Landlord.

“It was a fantastic night and once again I offer my huge congratulations to all the very worthy winners,” said kbbreview editor Tim Wallace.

“The kbbreview Awards are a great party – and I think there’ll be a few sore heads this morning. But at their heart, they recognise what’s great about this industry and the retailers that work within it.”

kbbreview Awards 2014 Ceremony Is Only Days Away!

by Dev Direct on March 1, 2014

kbbreview Awards 2014

With the 20th anniversary of the KBB awards at the Hilton Birmingham less than a week away, our team are working till the wee hours trying to complete projects so we can descend on the awards with no work worries on our minds.

The boss-man isn’t saying much about the awards despite being up for 3 but he made a quick quip saying the judges have already made their decisions so being nervous won’t help!

Never mind, we’re being nervous on his behalf as it would be great to win! ( well -one at least!) We had to remind him to get his haircut and to pick up his suit as he thought it was a fortnight away! #*

Anyway the rest of the team are all geared and ready to go : facials- check, manicures- check, tux rentals – check, sedatives- check( martin is totally petrified of flying so the bossman bought him a flight to conquer his fear- should be interesting! )

One last thing, we will need to make sure the bossman doesn’t sleep through his alarm and miss the flight – again! We couldn’t believe he missed the flight to the big judging day at RIBA in February but as ever, he pulled through and landed on his feet!

Hopefully next Tuesday will be another lucky day for us all! ‘
